I added reset days to my routine about two years ago and they have honestly changed my life. I know, a tad dramatic, but they really have helped me with both mindset and productivity.
Reset days are different to rest days, but are still very beneficial and essential to my wellbeing and management of my chronic illness.
What is a reset day?
The concept of a reset day might be something completely new to you, or you may have heard the term but not 100% sure how to start having one.
A reset day is where you take a day which is just for you. It’s like hitting that reset button to get things in order, put your self care first and prepare for the week ahead.
I like to do my reset days on Sunday’s so I have the chance to download the week which has just gone and plan how I’m going to tackle the week ahead.
These are great to have weekly to help you maintain order, routine and intention in your life. They’re also great if you’re feeling lost or overwhelmed or in need of getting back into a routine.

12 ideas to make the most of your reset day
Reset days are all about getting everything in order. There are lots of ways to make the most of your reset days too, and it all depends on what you want to get out of it.
So, here are 12 things you might want to include in your reset day…
- Have a deep clean, or just clean your space. This is something I always do and I like to make sure that my desk area at least is nice and tidy, ready for me to start working on Monday.
- Meal prep or plan. Write out (and maybe make) what you want to eat that week. Then you can make your shopping list and know exactly what you need!
- A cleansing bath or shower. I’m talking full skincare routine, shave, wash hair, exfoliate and intense moisturize whilst listening to a podcast, the radio, or your high vibe playlist. I always feel so calm and content after doing this!
- Baking! Make yourself some healthy(ish) treats for the week ahead. I get so much joy from baking and having sweet treats through the week where you know what’s in them is so much nicer than shop-bought cakes!
- Yoga flow. I love doing yoga on a Sunday. I like to know that even if I’ve missed my exercise throughout the week, I have a nice calming flow for the weekend.
- Journalling session. You know how much I love love love journalling. I like to sit down for 10-30 mins with my journal and do some soul searching on my reset days. I’ll either start or end my day doing this and it provides so much clarity
- Go on a walk and get out in nature. Not only is this essential for your wellbeing, but it’s also a great way to calm yourself and get your thoughts in order.
- Get those annoying small jobs you’ve been meaning to do DONE. You know the ones, making appointments, canceling or sorting out subscriptions, getting your car tax sorted, etc etc etc. Those niggling little jobs which you keep putting off. If you’re doing this on a Sunday and can’t do some of them due to places being closed, make a list and your top priority for Monday morning.
- Spend some time reading your book. How many of us want to read more but feel like you just don’t have enough time. So set out an hour or two to really get into your book. No distractions
- Get your to do list ready for the week ahead. Brain dump onto a piece of paper or your notes app everything you want to get done in the next week. Then, using your diary, write out when you’re going to do it. This doesn’t have to be strict – I often choose three things per day to do and plan till Wednesday, and then on Wednesday plan the remaining half of the week.
- Create or reestablish your routine. What do you want your days to look like? How do you want to feel in the morning and evening? What is realistic in the time you have. Write out how you want your morning and evening routines to look so you’re ready to implement them the following day.
- Check your prescriptions and see if you need to reorder anything
