Tucked away in the South Lakes, just a 5 minute drive from the M6, you’ll find the cosy bistro pub, Hare & Hounds Levens.
Situated in Levens, a few miles from Kendal, The Hare & Hound
One thing I noticed straight away was how good their vegetarian options are as well which the chef said can be made vegan quite easily.
There was a lovely calm atmosphere about the place and you instantly felt comfortable as soon as we were welcomed.
Eating at the Hare & Hounds Levens
There was a great selection of food on offer and it was really hard to choose! There was the main menu, a lunchtime menu (with sandwiches and soup) and some specials as well.

For starters, I had the black pudding fritters with truffle mayo and oh my goodness it was amazing!
The black pudding was really tasty and felt quite light which was a nice surprise as it can often be heavy when fried the way it is.
For me, the real star of the show was the truffle mayo which felt so luxurious and really made the meal pop!

The Hare & Hound is quite known for its burger’s and they all sounded gorgeous!
I opted for the veggie stack which had; halloumi, courgette, flat mushroom, aubergine, red pepper & pesto mayonnaise. It came with chunky chips and homemade coleslaw and was one of the best veggie burgers I’ve had!
There was so much flavour coming from the dish; you could taste each vegetable but they worked so well together and the way they were cooked (grilled or roasted) made them have this really heartwarming flavour which I couldn’t stop eating!
The coleslaw also tasted brilliant as it had cumin in which gave it depth and real flavour – it almost tasted like the sauce in coronation chicken!

I finished with every chocolate lovers DREAM – chocolate & orange truffle
I was worried it might be a bit sickly and too heavy after demolishing the rest of the meal but it had a wonderful lightness about it and it really didn’t feel sickly at all!
Charity work
I wanted to briefly mention the amazing charity work which the Hare & Hounds Levens does.
Supporting local charities, the Hare & Hounds have their charity pizza where £1.00 of every pizza sold goes to the charity.
They’re currently supporting local mental health charity GROWING WELL which is a farm-based Mental Health charity which
Overall thoughts
I absolutely loved our meal at the Hare & Hounds. I’ll 100% be returning as there was so much on the menu I wanted to try (especially their pizza’s).
Location wise, it is really easy to get to. If you’re on the M6 on your way up north to the Lake District or Scotland, it’s well worth a stop off. They’re dog-friendly and have rooms available as well (1 dog-friendly).
The Hare & Hounds Levens is open daily (bar 12 –
