Edinburgh Fringe Festival is one of my summer highlights I look forward to every single year. It’s my annual birthday trip and I get so excited planning what shows we’re going to go and see.
As I live in north Cumbria, you can get to Edinburgh in about an hour and a half on the train. It’s the perfect day out – I just wish I could stay longer to see more!
The atmosphere at the fringe festival is electric – there’s a great buzz around the place and you can see so many different and unique shows.
This was the first time I’d been mid-week (I went on a Wednesday) and it was a lot more manageable than when you go on a weekend but it still had that Edinburgh atmosphere about it.
How to spend a day at Edinburgh Fringe Festival
There’s SO MUCH going on at Edinburgh festival that it can feel a little daunting. Only being their for 6.5 hours adds even more pressure. This was my 5th year going and I feel like me and mum have a good plan when we go now.
One show I always go and see is The Best of Edinburgh Showcase Show which is on every lunchtime. It’s a great way to see a handful of comics in one go. This year, we saw;
- Mandy Muden – she was a semi-finalist on BGT and is a comic magician. She was BRILLIANT; very funny and you felt really comfortable watching her as well.
- Stuart Goldsmith – I’d never seen Stuarts stand up before but would love to go and see his full show. He felt very natural and I think we’re going to see more of him over the next few years!
- Josh Pugh – Josh is the English comedian of the year however his comedy wasn’t really my kind of thing. He felt a bit nervous as well which was maybe why it didn’t really have much impact
- JJ Whitehead – JJ has a
late night show at the festival and his stand up is a bit out there but absolutely hilarious. If you have a few days at the festival, I’d definitely recommend going to see him.
The line up changes everyday for the show and it’s fun because you never know who you’re going to go and see.
Anna Drezen’s debut show, Okay get home safe!! is a must see if you’re going up for the festival.
