December is just around the corner and it’s safe to say, I’m bringing the festivities into November this year just to have something to celebrate!
One of my favourite things about Christmas is choosing gifts to give to friends and family and Christmas shopping always feels so magical.
Now, 2020 is going to be a very different Christmas, but we can still enjoy it. I wanted to share some gift ideas for the Spoonie in your life. From stocking fillers to bigger gifts, there’s something for everyone in here.
Gift Guide for people living with chronic illnesses
YuYu Bottle

Heat pads and hot water bottles are a must for anyone living with a chronic illness. YuYu bottles are the best hot water bottles, mainly because they’re so long and you can actually wear it!
Weighted Blankets
2020 was the year I started using weighted blankets and I’m obsessed. They help with anxiety and just make you feel so cosy.
I currently use the Mela weighted blanket and recommend it so much! It’s got a really soft cover which adds to the cosiness.
The Labour of Love Eye Pillow is designed to help manage chronic pain but is also a gorgeous weighted pillow.
SAD Lamps
SAD lamps are a great gift to give someone who may struggle in the winter months. The lamp I’ve linked to looks like a really good one as it doubles as an alarm clock with a sunrise & sunset feature.
Self Care Gifts

The ultimate self-care kit comes from The Spoonie Survival Kits. Designed by spoonies, for spoonies, these self-care kits are a great gift (plus they’re eco-friendly too).

The Christmas Spoonie Box is another Spoonie Self Care box which I’m a fan of. The box has been created so any person with a chronic illness can still take part in the Christmas traditions. You can still eat the yummy goodies, and have an advent calendar, be toasty and warm – and celebrate at a different pace, knowing that you are seen and supported by your community.
Jewellery

I always think Jewellery is such a lovely gift to give, regardless of whether someone has a chronic condition or not. For my 21st birthday, I got a Daniel Wellington watch from my parents and it is such a special gift to give to someone.
Joma Jewellery is another great place to get meaningful pieces from. One of my friends got me the gorgeous Happy Turtle bracelet for me when I was in hospital and it meant the world to me. They have little cards which go with them with different sentiments such as good luck, karma, love etc and they’re beautiful.
Another gift I was given by my friends was amethyst bracelet which is meant to be a healing stone. If the person you’re buying for is more spiritual, looking at the effects of different stones may be a really nice, thoughtful touch.
Lounge wear and Cute PJ’s
Lounge wear and PJ’s are essentials, especially this past year!
If you’re looking for cute PJ’s, Fat Face, Sainsbury’s and Boux Avenue are some of my fave places to get them online.
Candles and essential oils

Essential oil diffusers are amazing things. Not only are they good for you and your wellbeing, they just create such lovely atmosphere’s.
Candles are always a perfect gift as well. My go to Candle company is Our Lovely Goods – the scents are gorgeous and they have a brilliant ethos too. They’ve also started self care boxes which are the perfect gift.
A new candle find is INTUI Candles which are all natural and have such a fresh sent. They’re absolutely gorgeous and they’re ethos is something which really resonated with me; to help you create a calm, personal sanctuary in a world that’s frequently filled with stress and distractions.
Isle of Mull soap also do beautiful candles and gift sets too.
Creative projects
I think art/crafty things are a great present. My mum tends to buy be something of this nature every year and I love it. I’ve talked about creative mindfulness on the blog before and how beneficial it can be for people with chronic conditions.
There are so many options, depending on the level of ability of who you’re buying for. I’m a big fan of the Reeves colouring books, which are great for mindfulness, and passing time in hospital, and are super handy and easy to do.
This year, I started Crewel Work, a type of embroidery, and absolutely love it. I use The Crewel Work Company and if you’re gifting to a complete beginner, I recommend starting with the Redwork Rabbit or any of the level one kits. I was a complete novice at the beginning of the year and amazed at what I’ve created so far!
If the person is more of a writer, a journal may be a more appropriate gift. The Nomad Factory have some gorgeous leather bound travel journals which would make a fantastic gift. I’m currently using mine as my bullet journal as it’s so handy to carry around in my bag.
Hopefully there are some gift ideas there for you to get someone special this christmas! Find our other gift guides here
