I have always struggled with getting into a skincare routine. My new medication has left my skin incredibly sensitve so I’ve been trying products to find the best sensitive skincare routine.

I started some new medication two months ago which has left my skin incredibly sensitive. Currently, the only products I can use are Dermalogica as the rest of my skincare products are making my face burn.

For all transparency, I am part of Dermalogica’s #Skinfluencer programme and these products have been gifted. However, all views and experiences are my own and there is no obligation to post.

My current skin type is incredibly sensitive and slightly dry. However, it used to be normal/oily and most of these products worked well with it (especially the exfoliator). The only difference now is that I can actually use the moisturisers!

Morning skincare routine for sensitive skin

I always start my day using the Dermalogica special cleansing gel. It’s soap and fragrance free and leaves the skin feeling refreshed and clean.

I was slightly sceptical when I saw that it was soap free but it works really well. Put it on damp skin and it foams up and removes all the dirt. Another thing to note, you really only need a small amount of product as it goes a long way.

After I’ve cleansed, I move onto the daily microfoliant which has been a game changer for me.

One skincare problem I’ve had for as long as I can remember is blackheads and big pores which are always noticeable. I’ve used lots of different exfoliators and most are usually too harsh on my skin and don’t do anything for me.

Dermalogica’s microfoliant has actually got rid of my blackheads and, because you can use it every day, I can keep on top of it.

The microfoliant is a rice-based powder which you activate with water and rub onto your face. I was quite confused by the powder at first but it really works at removing blackheads and dirt whilst being gentle on your skin.

I then move onto my new favourite product; redness relief essence from the UltraCalming range. This is a mix between toner and serum which reduces redness, boosts hydration and, what I love most, soothes irritation.

You put it on cleansed, dry skin and only need a small drop of it. As my skin has been so sensitive, this has been an absolute lifesaver at calming my skin.

Finally, the moisturiser I use is the new Prisma protect SPF30. I love that it has quite a high SPF and the main aim of the product is to provide broad-spectrum defence while preventing future signs of skin damage.

This is definitely not a product for the more oily skinned guys and gals as it does boost your skin’s natural luminosity and has a dewy finish. However, for normal and dry skin, it’s FAB.

Evening skincare routine for sensitive skin

I always start my evening skincare routine with the Dermalogica PreCleanse. You put it onto dry skin, concentrating on areas of congestion or stubborn debris. Then, wet hands and continue massaging to create a light, milky emulsion.

It’s a fantastic product which works on more oily skin as well as sensitive skin. It melts away any excess oils, makeup, suncream and anything else your skin has come into contact with the day.

I then move onto the cleansing gel, like I used in the morning and follow with the redness relief essence.

Finally, I finish off my skincare routine with the skin smoothing cream. This isn’t my favourite moisturiser as I find it slightly heavy for my skin type. However, it’s my other nighttime moisturiser (from The Body Shop) currently reacts with my skin so I use a very small amount to keep it moisturised!

A few things to note on Dermalogica; all of these products are fragrance-free which is perfect for sensitive skin and they are also cruelty-free which is AMAZING.

There is also a full UltraCalming range which I’m going to look into which is specifically for very sensitive skin and worth a look at!

Please leave any sensitive skin recommendations in the comments below, especially make up and suncream as I have no clue where to start!

All products were gifted as part of the #Skinfluence programme however all views and opinions are my own and there was no obligation to write an article on them.
