ModiBodi Period proof underwear : Do period-proof pants really work?

The idea of the Modibodi period-proof pants sound great; no faff, no waste and more comfort. But can they actually work? I have to say, I was pretty sceptical after 11 years of dreading my period, could some underwear really make it so easy.

So, what are period pants? Well, essentially they’re underwear which is absorbent (almost like a built-in pad but way comfier) which mean you don’t have to wear a tampon or pad.

I have ‘normal’ periods – not super heavy but not light. I usually use Always pads – me and tampons never fully got on- and my period lasts around 5-6 days. To fully test these, I used my Modibodi period-proof underwear on the heaviest days to see how they were.

And I absolutely LOVED these pants. I didn’t think I would but I’ve already ordered another pair!

How does period-proof underwear work?

Instead of wearing a tampon or pad, you wear these pants instead.

There are varying absorbencies from super light (1 tampon) through to overnight (3-4 tampons) so you can find one to suit your flow.

When you change them (I changed mine before bed and then the next morning) you rinse them under cold water until the water runs clear. Initially I thought this would be a bit gross but actually, super easy and took a few minutes.

You could then either put them straight in the wash or let them dry and wear once more. I did this as I saw Beth Sandland recommend it and, when you only have 2 pairs, it makes them last a bit longer!

Pros of ModiBodi Period-proof underwear

I loved these. Like I said, I’ve already ordered some more!

The biggest pro for me was I had my best nights sleep whilst on my period. I slept like a baby, didn’t need to worry about leaks and woke up the next morning with no period stains at all. And I had white bedding on so I’d have noticed!

I spent the whole time wearing them in amazement that they didn’t leak! I’d definitely recommend getting black ones. I also had a pair in grape colour and you could see a little bit of staining on the edge – but it came out in the rinse!

When you go on Modibodi’s website they have a massive range of styles. They are gorgeous so you look and feel good wearing them. For my fellow ostomates, the full brief design is perfect and support your stoma bag!

The other huge pro for me is the environmental factor. I didn’t have enough period pants to wear throughout my whole period but even still, I really reduced my product usage AND my period was a lot easier.

Cons of Modibodi period-proof underwear

I have to say, there aren’t many cons at all.

The downside is that they aren’t the cheapest, ranging between £18.00 – £25.00 per pair. However, they are a reusable period products and in the long run, does work out cheaper. You just can’t buy them in one go. The good news is, I can help you with a discount. You can get 15% off your order using KATIE15!

I’ve decided that I’m going to buy myself one pair a month for a bit to build up my collection so I can have a fully sustainable, and comfortable, period!

Apart from that, I have 0 complaints! There was no awful oder, you didn’t feel on edge the whole time and they worked!

I felt like now was a great time to try these. Not only are you not going out much, so you can get over the leak fear in the privacy of your own home, it’s also been a bit tricky to get period products in some areas during lockdown. Because you can reuse these, you don’t have to panic run to the shop when your period starts!

So that was my first experience of using period-proof underwear and it’s safe to say I am a convert! Let me know in the comments below if you’ve tried them!
